Carly is an experienced attorney with a strong and extensive background in criminal law.
Carly grew up in Ulster County. She studied History/Political Science at The College of Saint Rose as an undergraduate, completing her BA in 2010, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Carly went on to graduate from Syracuse University Law School in 2013 in the top 15% of her class. Upon graduating from law school, she immediately returned home to work as an Assistant District Attorney in Ulster County.
As a prosecutor, Carly handled all stages of misdemeanor and felony criminal cases, from arraignment and preliminary hearings, through grand jury presentations, and ultimately felony trial work. The focus of her case load was dedicated to Domestic Violence and Special Victims crimes. These difficult cases further instilled Carly’s commitment to compassionate advocacy.
In 2020, Carly became an Assistant Public Defender in Ulster County. As a Public Defender, Carly is responsible for all criminal appellate matters in the office as well as other forms of post-conviction relief. She has successfully obtained early release from state prison through medical parole for a client with a debilitating medical condition. Carly was also responsible for the resentencing of a client from 18 years in state prison to 10 years, effectively ensuring the client’s immediate release.
Due to her extensive experience as both a prosecutor and defense attorney, Carly is well-equipped to handle not only criminal matters but any case that requires empathy, careful consideration and attention to detail.
